Authoring Studio's Publish Tools Guide: Book Export for Backup and Sharing

Introduction

Book export is a tool that prepares your book for sharing or personal backup. When you are ready to publish or save your work, go to the Publish section.
Warning Always back up your work on your computer while working in the studio. This extra step ensures safety in the event of unexpected issues. Use the EPUB format for backups for easy re-uploading and editing.

Accessing Book Export

To access the Publish page:
1. Click Edit Book on the book details page or dashboard.





2. On the edit interface page, click the Publish button at the top right.

The Publish page includes:
  1. Book export

  1. Export history

Book Export

This section lets authors choose between downloading an EPUB3 file or publishing directly in the store. Options include:
  1. EPUB3: Ideal for reviewing and editing the book before publishing.

  1. Book Store: Directly publish your book in the store, which is useful for completed works ready for a wider audience.

Settings Option in the Book Export Section
Below the export options, the Settings feature allows customization of your book's appearance. It includes:


  1. Cover: Choose a cover from previously approved images in the Cover Manager.

  1. Styling: Manually edit CSS to customize the book's appearance, like underlining headings.

Exporting a Book
After choosing EPUB or Book Store, click Export Your Book. The process may take a few seconds or a few minutes, depending on the size of your book. A message displaying "Exporting, please wait" will be shown during the process. Click on the blue button to download the exported file.



Note:
For the Book Store option, there's no download button; you'll proceed to publishing.
Exports are removed after 72 hours, keeping only the last two.

Export History

After exporting, the Export History section shows details.



The Action Drop-Down Menu offers:
  1. Remove Export: Delete a specific export record.

  1. Comment: Add notes or annotations to an export record.

Adding a Comment to a Book Export
After Exporting:
1. Find the Export History section and click the Action menu.



2. Select Comment and type your thoughts in the text box.



3. Click Send comment to attach your comment to the export history.
