Referencing with Ease: Using Citations in Authoring Studio

Citation Feature Overview

The Citation feature lets users mark text, images, videos, equations, or interactive elements as items that can be referenced. This means you can cite these items within your document, making it easy to refer back to them.

How to Insert a Reference

1. Place your cursor where you want the item to be citable.



2. Click on the Citation menu at the top left of the chapter editor.



3. Choose Insert Reference.



4. In the modal that appears, type your caption in the Caption field. This caption will be what you see when you want to refer to this item later. Then, select the type of element you're referencing from the drop-down menu.



Editing a Reference

Click on the reference you want to change. In the modal, update the caption or reference type and click Edit Reference.




Deleting a Reference

Click on the reference you want to remove and press the Delete Reference button in the modal.




Inserting a Referrer

1. Move to the part of your book where you want to refer to a citable item.



2. Click on the Citation menu.



3. Choose Insert Referrer.



4. In the modal, you'll see a list of all the items you can refer to. Pick the one you want and click Insert Referrer.

Removing a Referrer

Click on the referrer you want to delete, and then click the Remove option that appears.


Inserting a List of References

1. Go to the section where you want a list of all references.
2. Click on the Citation menu.



3. Choose Insert a List of References.



4. In the modal, select the type of elements you want to list and click on Insert Reference. Repeat for other types if needed.




Deleting the List of References

Click on the list you want to remove, and then click the Remove option that appears.
