Publishing Panel: Subjects Creation and Management

The Publishing Panel's Subject tool is key for managing your store's inventory and helping customers find what they need. It sorts books by topic, making browsing easier and your store run smoother. Learning how to use the Subject page well helps create a user-friendly bookstore, ensuring customers can easily find the books they want.

Accessing the Subject

In the Publishing Panel, click on Subjects.


Creating a New Subject

You can add subjects to your bookstore using this option.

Click on Subjects in the Publishing Panel menu. On the Subjects page, click on Create New Subject.
Fill in the following fields:


Language

This process automatically saves in the default language of the bookstore.

Title

Enter the subject's title.


Subject Code

Enter the ONIX-standard subject code, which uniquely identifies and categorizes the subject within the system. Note that when an ONIX file is imported into PUBNiTO, its subject code is recorded and displayed here.

Parent

Select a parent subject from the available list to make this subject a sub-category. This allows you to create a hierarchical structure for better organization and navigation.

Image

Add an image that represents the subject. The image must have a 1:1 ratio.

Save Subject

Click on Save Subject to add the new subject to your bookshop.

Table of Subjects

On the Subjects Page, you can see a list of subjects and how many books are assigned to each. This page gives you the tools you need to easily manage and modify each subject.

Accessing the Table of Subjects

In the Publishing Panel, click on Subjects. You will be directed to the subjects page, where you can view the list of subjects created in the store.



The Different Sections of the Table

Show Items

Select the number of entries—10, 25, 50, or 100—you want to see on each page.


Use the search bar to look for particular subject entries. The table will dynamically refresh to provide any results that match the subject title you enter.


Title

Displays the name of the created subject.



Parent

Shows the parent subject of each entry, if the subject is a sub-category. This helps in understanding the hierarchy of subjects.

Number of Books

Displays the number of books associated with the subject.



Count of Edited Books

Shows the number of books that have been edited or updated under a particular subject.

Sort Date

To organize the subjects according to the date they were added, click on Sort. You have the option to sort them in either ascending or descending order.


Setting

In the settings, you can change your subjects' titles, update images, or switch book covers to match your needs.


Edit

This gives you the option to change the subject's title, images, or book cover images.


Delete

Click on the Delete button to delete a subject from your bookshop. The subject is permanently removed after this action.


Editing a Subject

Click the Subjects option in the Publishing Panel menu. After taking this step, you will be directed to the subjects page, where you can view the list of subjects that have been created in the store.



Locate the subject you want to update in the table. Click on the Edit option associated with that collection. This action will open the subject editor.


Language

If necessary, change the subject's language. Click on the language drop-down menu and select your language of choice. By doing this, you can also perform edits related to other languages.

Title

Change the subject title.

Image

Update the topic's image.

Update Subject

After making the necessary changes, click on Update Subject to save the new information.

Attributes

In your online bookstore, you can create attributes within subjects and define their values, which will then appear as filter options in search results, enhancing the browsing experience for customers.

Adding an Attribute to a Subject

Click on Subjects in the Publishing Panel menu. You will be directed to the subjects page, where you can view the list of subjects that have been created in the store.



Locate the subject you want to add attributes to in the table. Click on the Edit option associated with that subject. This action will open the subject editor.



At the bottom of the editor, you will find a section for attributes. Here, you can both edit previously defined attributes and introduce new ones to the system.



To add a new attribute to the subject, click on Add Attribute.


Following this step, you will be directed to a page where you can enter attributes and values.

Name

Enter the attribute's name; for example age group.


Value

Decide on values for your attribute. For example teenager.


Note: You can add multiple values.

Save Attribute

Click on Save Attribute to save your information.


Editing an Attribute

Click the Subjects option in the Publishing Panel menu. On the Subjects page, you can view the list of subjects that have been created in the store.



Locate the subject that contains your attribute. Click on the Edit option associated with that subject. This action will open the subject editor.



At the bottom of the editor, you will find a table displaying attributes.


To edit a specific attribute, click on the Edit option.


Change the attribute name, and then click on Update Attribute.

Note: The values become unchangeable after this attribute is used.

Deleting an Attribute

Click the Subjects option in the Publishing Panel menu. On the Subjects page, you can view the list of subjects that have been created in the store.



Locate the subject that contains your attribute. Click on the Edit option associated with that subject. This action will open the subject editor.



At the bottom of the editor, you will find a table displaying attributes.

Find the attribute you want to delete in the table.

Click on the Trash Can icon to delete.
